Tree Officer

A Local Authority in Wets Midlands is looking for an experienced Tree Officer to join on an interim basis. This will be for an initial 3–4-month contract.

About The Role

As a Tree officer you provide professional arboricultural advice and specialist services to assist the Council in meeting its corporate objectives and statutory obligations in relation to trees. You will assist the Council’s planning service in the protection of trees and hedges and provide technical advice to other Council departments and external organisations where necessary to encourage the sustainable management and protection of trees in line with arboricultural best practice.

About The Candidate

The right candidate will demonstrate experience of the following:

  • A nationally recognised arboricultural qualification to level 4.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of planning and environmental legislation and common law in relation to trees and hedges.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the impact of trees on structures and the effects of construction on trees.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety requirements in relation to trees.
  • Good up-to-date knowledge of tree health, pathogens, pests and diseases and experience of undertaking detailed tree inspections.
  • Good up-to-date knowledge of planting design and specification.
  • Good up-to-date knowledge of health and safety regulations, policies and procedures relating to arboriculture.
  • Good up-to-date knowledge of tree risk management process and procedures.
  • Good up-to-date knowledge of arboricultural best practice including relevant British Standards.
  • Knowledge of forestry and woodland management
  • Ability to use Geographic Information Systems
  • Knowledge of grant regimes for tree planting and management.
