Overview
A Local Authority in the East Midlands is seeking an experienced Trading Standards Officer to support targeted enforcement work focused on illegal tobacco and vape sales.
This role will involve inspections, intelligence gathering and enforcement action against businesses breaching trading standards legislation, particularly in relation to illicit tobacco, e-cigarettes and underage sales.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect retail premises to ensure compliance with Trading Standards legislation
Carry out enforcement activity relating to illegal tobacco, illicit vapes and underage sales
Investigate complaints and intelligence regarding illegal trading activity
Gather and record intelligence in line with Trading Standards procedures
Advise businesses and consumers on legislation and compliance requirements
Participate in enforcement initiatives and project work
Undertake sampling exercises where required
Prepare reports, correspondence and legal documentation to support enforcement action
Work with partner agencies and internal departments where required
Requirements
Previous experience within a Local Authority Trading Standards service
Experience investigating illegal tobacco, vaping products or underage sales
Confident carrying out inspections and progressing enforcement action
Strong case management and report writing skills
