A Local Authority is looking for an experienced Food Standards Officer to join their team on an initial 6-month contract, with the potential for extension depending on service needs.
The role will focus on Food Standards inspections, particularly allergen compliance and unrated food premises, supporting inspection and enforcement activity across the local area.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking Food Standards inspections, focusing on allergens and unrated premises
- Assessing compliance with relevant Food Standards legislation
- Carrying out inspection and enforcement activities
- Maintaining accurate inspection records and completing associated administrative duties
- Travelling locally to undertake inspections
What We’re Looking For
- Evidence of relevant Food Standards competency gained within the last 12 months
- A relevant Trading Standards or Environmental Health qualification recognised by the Food Standards Agency (FSA)
- Knowledge of Food Standards requirements, particularly allergen compliance
- Ability to undertake inspections and enforcement work independently
- Own vehicle/transport required
Relevant qualifications may include:
- Diploma in Trading Standards or a relevant CTSI/TSQF qualification incorporating Food Standards
- Higher Certificate in Food Control (EHRB/CIEH)
- Higher Certificate in Official Control or Food Standards Inspection (SFSORB)
- Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health
- Environmental Health Practitioner registration or an equivalent recognised qualification
Other relevant qualifications recognised by the FSA, including predecessor qualifications, may also be considered.
Contract Details
- Initial 6-month contract, with potential for extension
- Full-time, Monday–Friday; part-time considered
- Hybrid working, with at least three days per week on site or in the office
- Home working may be considered for administrative duties
- Mileage payable for business travel
