Food Safety Officer/Inspector

We are currently supporting a Local Authority in the North East with the recruitment of an experienced Food Safety Officer to join their Food Safety team.
This role will primarily focus on delivering a programme of lower-risk food hygiene inspections, including Category C and D premises.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Carrying out food hygiene inspections and risk-based interventions
- Investigating food safety complaints and responding to service requests
- Supporting local businesses to achieve and maintain compliance with food safety legislation
- Taking proportionate enforcement action where appropriate
- Providing practical advice and guidance to food business operators
- Managing food safety cases and maintaining accurate inspection records
The successful officer will be confident managing their own caseload, undertaking inspections independently, providing professional advice, and ensuring compliance with relevant food safety legislation and local authority policies.
Requirements:
- Previous experience carrying out food hygiene inspections within a local authority
- An appropriate qualification recognised for food law enforcement (e.g. Higher Certificate in Food Control or equivalent)
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (where required)
