Environmental Practitioner (Environmental Protection)
Initial 4–6 Month Contract (Potential for Extension)
Full-Time Preferred (Flexible Working Considered)
Hybrid Working – Minimum 2 Days per Week On-site
We are working with a Local Authority in the East Midlands to recruit an experienced Environmental Health Officer or suitably qualified Environmental Practitioner for an initial 4–6 month contract, with the potential for extension.
Joining a busy Environmental Protection team, you will manage a varied caseload covering statutory nuisance, environmental pollution, and anti-social behaviour (ASB) complaints, while also providing technical advice on planning consultations and environmental impacts.
The successful candidate will have experience in:
- Investigating statutory nuisance complaints
- Conducting noise nuisance assessments and monitoring
- Managing anti-social behaviour (ASB) and environmental pollution cases
- Responding to planning application consultations
- Reviewing and commenting on technical reports, including acoustic assessments, dust management plans, and lighting impact reports
This role would suit an officer who is confident managing their own caseload with minimal supervision following an initial office-based induction. You will also be expected to work collaboratively within a small, high-performing team handling a busy and varied workload.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working within Environmental Protection or Environmental Health for a Local Authority
- Proven experience investigating statutory nuisance, noise, and pollution complaints
- Competence in environmental noise assessment, ideally supported by an IoA Diploma or equivalent qualification
- Experience using Norsonic and/or Larson Davis noise monitoring equipment and associated software (desirable)
- Experience responding to planning consultations and interpreting technical environmental reports
- A reliable, proactive individual who can work independently while contributing effectively to the wider team
