Job Description

A Local Authority in Kent is looking for a Senior Planning Lawyer to work on an interim basis with the opportunity to work for the Council on a long-term basis. You will work for a company that prides itself on its high retention rate and staff engagement.

The Role

You will undertake an extensive caseload of general and complex planning work and provide high-quality legal advice to elected members across the authority. You will prepare and advise on draft delegated reports for meetings of the council, and act as the lead negotiator for the legal agreements under s.106 of the Town & Country Planning Act 1990. Alongside this, you will participate in intra- and inter-departmental working parties and corporate groups across the authority. Furthermore, you will provide supervision to junior members of staff in the Planning team and work closely with Legal Support Officers to supervise the support they provide on legal transactions.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a high-quality proactive professional who has had stable Local Government experience and would be open to working with the client on a longer-term basis. Furthermore, the candidate will have the ability to provide advice on major applications and thorough experience drafting s.106 agreements in addition to understanding the principles of property law as relevant to planning and development and project work.
