We are seeking a commercially minded, technically strong, and detail-oriented Qualified Management Accountant to join the Finance team of a growing mid-sized bank in London.

The successful candidate will take ownership of key management accounting activities, providing accurate and insightful financial information to support business decision-making. The role will have a strong focus on management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, cost management, financial controls, and supporting the wider Finance function within a regulated banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely monthly management accounts and management reporting packs.

  • Prepare and analyse monthly financial results, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, and key performance indicators.

  • Perform detailed variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods, identifying key drivers and providing meaningful commentary.

  • Support the annual budgeting and financial planning process, working closely with budget holders and senior stakeholders.

  • Maintain and update financial forecasts, providing analysis of emerging trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Prepare detailed financial analysis to support commercial and strategic decision-making across the bank.

  • Monitor income, expenditure, accruals, prepayments, provisions, and other financial transactions to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Perform and review bank, balance sheet, intercompany, and general ledger reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are investigated and resolved promptly.

  • Prepare and post journals, ensuring accounting entries are accurate, complete, and appropriately supported.

  • Maintain strong financial controls and ensure the integrity of financial information across the Finance function.

  • Support the preparation of statutory, regulatory, and other financial reporting requirements applicable to the bank.

  • Provide financial insight and support to business teams, including analysis of costs, profitability, performance, and financial trends.

  • Work closely with Finance, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and other business functions to understand financial performance and improve reporting.

  • Support internal and external audit processes, providing accurate documentation and evidence as required.

  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting efficiency, controls, and automation.

  • Contribute to Finance projects, systems implementations, process improvements, and other strategic initiatives.

  • Provide support and guidance to junior members of the Finance team where appropriate.

  • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with the bank’s policies, procedures, accounting standards, and applicable UK regulatory requirements.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Fully qualified accountant with ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent recognised professional qualification.

  • Relevant post-qualification experience in management accounting, financial reporting, or a similar finance role.

  • Experience working within banking, financial services, or another regulated financial environment is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of management accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls.

  • Proven experience preparing and analysing monthly management accounts and providing financial commentary to senior stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and translate findings into clear commercial insights.

  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large and complex financial datasets.

  • Experience working with finance systems, ERP platforms, and/or financial reporting tools.

  • Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to understand the wider commercial and business context.

  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet demanding reporting deadlines.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate and resolve accounting and reporting issues independently.

  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and professional judgement.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within a UK bank or regulated financial institution.

  • Knowledge of UK banking regulation and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Experience with financial planning, forecasting, cost management, and profitability analysis.

  • Experience working with financial reporting, consolidation, or business intelligence systems.

  • Experience supporting finance transformation, process improvement, or automation projects.

  • Experience presenting financial results and analysis to senior management.

  • Knowledge of relevant UK accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
