Stonehouse are currently supporting a Local Authority in the Midlands with the recruitment of a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer to join their Environmental Protection team.

This opportunity offers a varied workload, focusing on pollution control, environmental regulation, and statutory enforcement across a range of commercial and industrial premises.

The successful candidate will have experience with:

  • Investigating statutory nuisance complaints, including noise, odour, dust, smoke and other environmental issues
  • Carrying out Environmental Protection inspections and site investigations
  • Providing Environmental Protection advice on planning consultations
  • Investigating contaminated land enquiries and pollution incidents
  • Working in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Environmental Permitting Regulations
  • Investigating fly-tipping, waste offences and environmental crime affecting commercial and industrial sites

The position requires an officer who can independently manage a varied Environmental Protection caseload, undertake inspections and investigations, apply proportionate enforcement where necessary, and maintain accurate records in line with relevant legislation and local authority procedures.

Requirements:

  • Fully qualified Environmental Health Officer with a recognised Environmental Health qualification
  • Proven experience within Environmental Protection in a local authority setting
  • Strong understanding of Environmental Protection legislation and enforcement practices
  • Ability to manage a varied workload independently
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (where required)
