Senior Housing Standards Officer
Contract: Initial 3 month Contract
Location: Surrey
Working Pattern: Hybrid
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Housing Standards Officer to join a well-established Local Authority Private Sector Housing team.
This is a varied role where you’ll take the lead on complex housing enforcement cases, support junior officers, and help improve housing standards across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate poor housing conditions and carry out HHSRS inspections.
- Lead on complex enforcement cases, including statutory notices, interviews under caution, works in default and prosecution proceedings.
- Manage HMO licensing, empty homes work and caravan site licensing.
- Prepare court documentation and represent the authority where required.
- Supervise and support Housing Standards Officers with complex casework.
- Work closely with landlords, tenants, partner agencies and internal departments to improve housing conditions
Requirements
- Previous Local Authority experience within Private Sector Housing or Housing Standards.
- Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS and housing enforcement legislation.
- Experience managing HMO licensing and complex enforcement cases.
- Environmental Health qualification (or equivalent) with HHSRS competency.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
